Howdo, I’m a guitar player and songwriter – inspired by music from all around the world but especially rootsy blues, folk, Americana and blues rock. After many years on Tyneside, I spent 3 years full time on the road in a motorhome around Europe and the UK, playing solo shows in Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Hungary, Denmark and Italy and at various UK blues clubs and festivals with my band. Now based in Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland, I play solo, with the trio The Travlin Lights, and the 6-piece band, Kurlew.

Live shows: UK & Europe

If you like original soulful blues and roots inspired music, americana, acoustic soul or blues rock, solo or with the band, please get in touch via Twitter or Facebook or contact How via bandcamp.

I’m based in South West Scotland, often across in Tyneside, but we’re mobile in the van and love to travel.

I’d love to play at your bar, cafe, gallery, venue, vineyard, gold mine, brewery, historic maritime monument, concert, festival, secret show, beer festival, house party, gig, wine or whisky tasting, radio session…

Original music by How Askew…

Three original songs recorded live on the road in Sweden, summer 2021.

Inspired by life on the road, Travelling Girl is the first track from a work-in-progress album called “Drifter”. Features pedal steel guitar legend BJ Cole, piano and vocal harmonies from North East songwriter Jen Stevens, and Richy Clarke on bass.

Brass Neck! features 10 original songs, each arranged in a style loosely inspired by a different era or flavour of the blues from the last century. Reached 14 in the UK Independent Blues Broadcasters Association (IBBA) charts in February 2020.
