How Askew is a guitar player and singer songwriter from the UK. He plays his own blend of modern blues, acoustic soul and Americana. Captivated at an early age by blues giants Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Johnson, and electric slide virtuosos Ry Cooder and Rory Gallagher, his obsession with the guitar created and shaped a genuine talent. Later influences include world music and southern, psychedelic and country rock. His acoustic playing and singing is rich, warm and intimate while the electric guitar brings out a more aggressive side, a sharper edge.
His original songs deal with love, loss, breakup and heartache, rambling, drinking, loneliness and moving on down the line. These sit well alongside his versions of better known songs by the likes of BB King, Ry, Rory, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, Lowell Fulson, Chuck Berry and more modern ear-worms.
He released a CD of home recordings in 2002, entitled ‘Thinking about changing my ways’. A new release is expected soon.
